Two years ago, Lakewood Trails Neighborhood Association partnered with the City of Dallas Parks Department to restore the Blackland Prairie remnant on Williamson Road, just South of Lakewood Park, to its original native state.
On Saturday, Sept. 14 the City Parks Department installed a sign in the prairie commemorating LTNA’s collaboration with them.
A group of Lakewood Trails neighbors, along with some Dallas County Master Naturalists and members of the Dallas Chapter of the Blackland Prairie Association, have been working in the prairie, spreading native seeds and removing invasive plants, such as Queen Anne’s Lace and Johnson Grass. It will be a long process but we can already see progress from our efforts!
