SoPac Trail Clean Up
Saturday, April 8th, 2023, 8:30am at SoPac Trail
Our clean up team picks up litter on the SoPac Trail adjacent to our neighborhood on the second Saturday of each month, starting at 8:30am. Our clean up site begins under the Mockingbird Bridge continuing to the Trestle Bridge near White Rock Park. The clean up takes about an hour.

Singles, couples and families are welcome. Kids love using the grabbers and take pride in picking up litter. Teens may earn community service hours and may flex their hours.  If you are interested in joining our team or need more information please email Chairperson Pat Watson, Neighbors@LakewoodTrails.net or call her at

Prairie Team Work
Saturday, April 15th, 2023, 8:30am to 10:30am at Blackland Prairie area adjacent to Lakewood Park
For the past five years the Lakewood Trails Prairie Team has partnered with the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department and the Texas Conservation Alliance (TCA) to work on restoring the native Blackland Prairie adjacent to Lakewood Park. During the the past two years the team has planted hundreds of Texas native pollinator plants in that area. Lakewood Trails agreed to adopt the prairie in order to restore the natural habitat for wildlife, especially pollinators (butterflies, insects, bees and birds).

This year we will be working on removing invasive plants such as Queen Anne's Lace and Johnson grass from the prairie area so that the native plants can thrive. Invasive species often outcompete with native plants by overgrowing their spaces and decreasing the biodiversity of the prairie. They also serve little use to native wildlife. Biodiversity is essential to a healthy ecosystem.

Join us on SATURDAY, APRIL 15TH, FROM 8:30 TO 10:30 A.M. to help remove invasive plants from one of Dallas' few remaining prairies. You will be helping to restore this prairie to ecological health and rewild it to benefit bees, butterflies, bats, beetles, birds and other pollinators. If you decide to volunteer in this effort please bring a hat, gloves, pruners and shovels if you have them.  Bottled water and extra tools and gloves will be provided.

The Lakewood Trails Prairie team will continue working with the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department (represented by Brett Johnson, Urban Biologist and Sr. Environmental Coordinator) to work on restoring the Lakewood Trails' remnant of the Blackland Prairie to its native state.
